As Post Commander, I want to welcome you to
the Carlisle VFW Post 2099 web page. We are very proud of the
many accomplishments of our Post. In addition to serving
and supporting the men and women of our armed forces, we
provide many services to the community and of
course service to veterans.
If you are a veteran I urge you to consider joining.
Come and talk to us, look us over, and see what we are all
about. I am confident that you will chose to join.
Here is a link to the VFW
national site for you to learn more about the VFW and your
eligibility.
I encourage you to visit
us in person. Although post meetings are restricted to
VFW members, the VFW tavern is open to the
public.

The objectives of this
association are fraternal, patriotic, historical, and
educational; to preserve and strengthen comradeship among its
members; to assist worthy comrades; to perpetuate the memory
and history of our dead, and to assist their widows and
orphans; to maintain true allegiance to the government of the
United States of America, and fidelity to its Constitution and
laws; to foster true patriotism; to maintain and extend the
institutions of American freedom; and to preserve and defend
the United States from all her enemies, whomsoever.
MILITARY APPRECIATION MONTH
In 1999 Congress designated May as
"National Military Appreciation Month." This
very important month honors, remembers, recognizes and
appreciates all military personnel; those men and women who have
served throughout history and all who now serve in uniform and
their families as well as those Americans who have given their
lives in defense of our freedoms we all enjoy today. Let
us celebrate them just as we celebrate the other important
entities that make up this wonderful country of ours.

Military Appreciation Month)
Loyalty Day encourages citizens to demonstrate their commitment to our
country by supporting our military, serving each other, and teaching our
young people about our history and values. Being an American is a
privilege, and our patriotism is a living faith in our country’s founding ideals
and the promise of the American Dream. The Congress has designated May 1
of each year as "Loyalty Day", a day to reaffirm our
allegiance to our Nation.
The bid to celebrate May Day as
Loyalty Day came in the 1930's as a counteractive bid. A bid to
counteract the May Day Communist exhibitions in the United
States. Members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars thought that a
challenge must be given to what they considered as the
'disruptive forces of the communism'. And they wanted that the
loyalty of Americans to the American ideals must be asserted
to prevent the growth of communism in America.
As the veteran population ages, we are all to frequently asked
to render final respects to those who have served our country
and have passed on from this life. We are honored to be
able to present military burial rites and to comfort their
loved ones in time of need.
When a flag's condition and appearance are no longer good
enough to represent the country, it should be retired from
service with dignity and respect. Proper flag disposal
is one of the patriotic duties VFW Posts conduct
nationwide.
