The Carlisle
Chamber of Commerce is pleased to feature Heartland
Coop.
And
talk about business.....Did you know Heartland Coop:
-
is
the 24th largest Co-op in the nation.
-
can
load 100 railroad cars full of corn in an 8 hr
period.
(This is equal to 400,000 bushels and is 1 mi
in length)
-
is completely automated and monitored on a
computer.
-
storage capacity is 5.4 million bushels of
corn
-
plus could store another 1.3 million bushels in a warehouse
that is presently being used to store fertilizer.
-
handled
22 million bushels of a corn last year.
-
corn no longer is
dried at this facility, only stored.
-
unloaded
258 trucks of corn in a 9 ½ hr. day last year.
The
Heartland Coop purchased the elevators in 1993 from the
Avon Grain Company and handles corn and beans grown by
our local farmers and also receives grain from some of
the other co-ops. Heartland
has 28 grain facilities throughout Central Iowa.
This facility has 10 full-time employees.
Most of their corn is shipped to the Imperial
Valley in Arizona for cattle feed.
They ship corn as far away as California and
Mexico. The
cost to ship corn to California is approx. $290,000 for
100 cars. This
was done 35-40 times last year.
