5. Carlisle
Betterment report:
- WhyCarlisle.com - Dee
Smith Shared results of a survey
with WhyCarlisle.com.
- Denny Woodruff from Avondale Animal Clinic,
mentioned that he has had trouble with connectivity issues.
They spent over 6 months getting to the right person for their
communication problems. Steve
Curran from General Mills said that they also have the same issue.
Martha Willits and Mark Davitt will pass this problem on to the
proper
individuals.
6. Greater
Des Moines Partnership:
-
Mike
Kinter, who is also a member from the Small Business Advisory
Committee, welcomed everyone and shared when he first was involved
with the Chamber, there was no communication between the Chambers and
Mayors of the surrounding communities.
So, it is great having so many people work together.
-
Martha
Willits, CEO of the Greater Des Moines Partnership, mentioned that
people are fortunate to live in a small community.
Carlisle does have a lot of advantages.
-
Project
Destiny and the need to continue to strive for regionalism were
discussed. Commercial Property Tax does need to be addressed and somehow
the whole taxing issue needs to be more fair and equitable.
-
The
workforce in the Greater Des Moines area will be diminishing
drastically over the next few years.
Presently we have an unemployment rate of 2% in the entire Des
Moines area. Our young
people seem to be moving out of Iowa and going to other places to live
& work. There is a
Young Professionals group in Des Moines with
approximately 700 members.
They do reach out to approximately 2500 young people.
Somehow, we need to get these young people involved in the
community so they want to stay here.
