Monthly Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, May 8th, 2007  6:00 p.m. 
Webb's Campground - Hartford, IA 50047

1. Open Meeting:

  • Tammy Davis, President, opened the meeting at 6:27 p.m. at Webbs Campground.


2. Minutes of previous meeting:

  • Motion to approve the minutes of the April 10, 2007 meeting by Larry Watkins and Bob Stuyvesant.  Second by Ruth Randleman.  Motion passed.

3. Treasurer’s report:

  • Jim Segreto, Treasurer, was not present.  Tammy Davis presented the Treasures report. Motion by Linda Richards, second by Ruth Randleman.  Motion passed.

4. Executive Director report

  • Membership- 

New memberships - Multi-Craft Exterior Consultants, Mark Prall, owner

Chamber has lost 9 business members and 1 individual membership from last year. 

The Chamber has gained 13 business members and 2 individual memberships since last directory was published.

Current membership is:  92 memberships

Business members  -  87     Individuals  -  5

  • Directory - The new directory has been printed last week and is being distributed this week to the Carlisle School District residents.

  • Committee Updates:
    Garden Party -
    Saturday, June 2ndEthel has been working with committee on their planning.  The 85th anniversary of North Park will be emphasized at this event, the 4th of July and the Concert in the Park.

    City-Wide Garage Sale - The City-wide Garage Sale will be advertised as being on Saturday, the 16th only. Chris Pighetti is co-coordinating this event and has put the information on Channel 12.  

    Shaklee Conference - Friday, June 29th Janis Wagenknecht & Ethel have been communicating about this event.  More information will be given to the Chamber next month.

    Golf Outing - Denny Woodruff will be attending the Golf Outing planning meeting that is scheduled for tomorrow.  Volunteers will be needed for the day of Friday, July 27th.

    Revitilization Committee - This committee met again on April 23rd.  An inventory brochure of businesses for sale was reviewed.  This will be distributed to banks, realtors, WCDED, etc. Ideas of how to create community pride in downtown Carlisle were discussed.  Their next meeting will be held on Monday, May 21st at 12:00 noon, in the Chamber office.  A group in this committee also wants to pursue the history of the older buildings downtown.

    Beautification Committee - Additional funding has been received, so the Beautification Committee will be adding Hanging Baskets to the electric poles along First Street.  Anyone wishing to volunteer in helping with touching up the bicycles from last year with paint, making and hanging the hanging baskets or just helping out with watering during the summer, please let Ethel know.  Additional helping hands would be appreciated.  Kay Scholl has ordered the remaining landscaping plants/grasses for the Van Patten corner.  

    Carlisle Sizzling Saturdays - Sizzling Saturdays will be held on May 19, June 16, and July 21 from 9:00 – 12:00 p.m.  Articles are being published to try to get vendors to set tables in the downtown area.


5. Carlisle Betterment report:

  • Dee Smith reported that the committee will meet this Thursday.

6. Greater Des Moines Partnership:

  • Shar Pardubsky was not present.

7. Other reports & updates:

    1. Government/Community Affairs
  • Julie Kunze from Warren County Economic Development gave an up-date on Leadership Awards and Focus

  • Betty Hugunin from Carlisle Schools along with Senior Zac Preston gave an up-date on the FCCLA Courtyard Project.  In total, $52,000 was raised for the project which is almost completed.  One of the items needed are picnic tables.  Patrons and business can still make donations to go towards the tables.

Tuesday, June 12th at 5:30 p.m..  Hosts will be Greg and Teri Gruss at the Scotchridge Vineyard.
