Executive Board Meeting

July 5th, 2007  12:00 p.m.
Carlisle Chamber Board Room, 325 Garfield St., Carlisle, Ia.


Members present:   President Tammy Davis, Dan Crum, Les Hartshorn, Ryan Meieotto, Dee Smith and David Wright.  
Also present:  Ethel Lee, Shar Pardubsky


1. Open Meeting and Introductions:  Ethel Lee Exec Director, opened the meeting at 12:05 p.m.  Tammy Davis, President arrived after meeting started.


2. Approval of Minutes:

Motion by David Wright, second by Dee Smith to approved the minutes of the May 3, 2007 and June 7, 2007 meetings.  Motion carried.


3. Treasurers Report: 

Motion by Les Hartshorn, second by Dee Smith to approve the Treasurers report.  Motion carried.


4. Executive Director Report:    Ethel Lee was reported the following items:

Memberships:  

Ribbon Cutting for the new Middle School is to be Sunday, August 26th - 3:00 p.m.

Two businesses in town.  School Street Scholars & Day Care, 80 School St and Kees Camp, 155 N 1st.  Both have mentioned that they want to join the chamber.

Directory:  Extra Directories have arrived.

Annual Dinner 2008:  Annual Dinner for Sunday, January 20, 2008.  The Drake Football coach has resigned.  Ethel has called the Drake Athletic office.   The Secretary is out of the office until next week.  Ethel will see if perhaps Tom Davis would be available.

Committee Updates:

  • Train 844: Train 844 was in town.  Mayor Randleman declared June 28th as ‘Union Pacific Railroad Day’.

  • Shaklee conference: Friday, June 29th.  The dinner at the school went well.  Thanks to Dane Wright for moving rock and attaching the plaque.  Mayor Randleman declared June 29th as “Dr. Forrest C. Shaklee Day”

  • Revitilization Committee:    Starting to work on material that shares history of the older buildings downtown.  Also putting together a survey to present to the community through Survey Monkey.  Their next meeting will be held on Monday, July 23rd at 12:00 noon.

  • Beautification Committee:    The final report has been submitted to MWA so should be receiving the check shortly for $2500.  We have had a lot of good comments.  The committee would like to do again next year.  Not sure yet were we will get the money from.  Consensus was to put an article in the Citizen to ask for donations.

  • Carlisle Sizzling Saturdays:    The last Sizzling Saturday will be held on July 21st .   The American Auxiliary is planning on doing a breakfast.  Kearney’s is planning on making cinnamon rolls.  The last Saturday we had more vendors, but less people.  It might have been because of the City-Wide Garage sale going on the same day.  The $5 per table charge is going towards the cost of the 85th Anniversary banner in front of the store.

  • Night at Principal Park:    Thursday, August 2nd  -  Bus will be available again this year.  Carlisle will provide the buns for the cookout. Tickets are $3.00 for the game, $5.00 for game and tailgate.

  • Pride Ride:    Saturday, August 25th.  -  Will serve Breakfast and sell orange T-shirts

  • Concert in the Park:    To be held on Sunday, August 26th.  Urbandale Jazz Band is coming to play.  Ruth Fetters is also trying to line up some Blue Grass entertainment.

  • Night at Principal Park:    Thursday, August 2nd  -  Bus will be available again this year.  Carlisle will provide the buns for the cookout. Tickets are $3.00 for the game, $5.00 for game and tailgate.


5. Trailhead Sign:    Trailhead sign needs to be up-dated.  Ethel will contact etc. Graphics to see if they can up-date the sign.


6.  Greater Des Moines Partnership:    Shar Pardubsky was present and reported the following:

  • 210 people attended the DC trip including the Carlisle City Mayor and officials from Warren County.  The group had good meetings with lawmakers.

  • Project Destiny- See Old Business 

  • Gitomer Live – See New Business


7. Old Business:

  • Project Destin - Shar Pardubsky reported that more positive information will be in the media in the days to come.  Campaign staffers are optimistic on passage.

  • Golf Outing - Plans are continuing.

  • Baseball night at Principal Park - Baseball night will be Thursday, Aug. 2nd.  Tickets are here.  


7. New Business: 

  • Gitomer Live -  Shar Pardubsky talked to the chamber about supporting Jeffrey Gitomer. The Greater DM Partnership is bringing him in for a seminar on Leadership on October 30th at Prairie  Meadows.  The cost to the partnership is $8000.  Each Affiliate is asked to donate $400 each to help cover the cost.  Affiliate members cost to attend the seminar is $76 each. The chamber members cost to attend the seminar is $76 each.  Ethel will contact some business to see it there is interest in any Carlisle business attending.  The chamber can then decide if it wants to donate any funds.

  • August Program – Scott Bush may be the speaker.
