Carlisle Chamber of Commerce
Executive Board Meeting

March 8th, 2007  12:00 p.m.
Deery Brothers Board Room


Members present:   Vice-Pres Tammy Davis, Greg Grissom, Jim Segreto and Dee Smith.

Also present:  Ethel Lee, Executive Director

Since there was not a quorum present, no official action was taken on any item.

1. Open Meeting:  Vice-President Davis opened the meeting at 12:15 p.m.


2. Previous minutes:

Val Bush no longer works for Deery Brothers, so we will need to find a new Secretary for the Chamber.  Tammy will see if Linda Frazier might be interested.  Notes Tammy had taken from the last meeting include:

  • the $1000 for the Trail Head Project will be used for the Downtown sign.

  • Shaklee convention people will be coming to town in June.

  • will move forward on a new Directory for this year.Will try to find a person to volunteer to attend the Small Business Advisory Council meetings


3. Treasurers Report:

Jim Segreto mentioned:

  • a CD is coming due.  Great Western had the highest rate so will re-new with them

  • will be meeting with Stuyvesant regarding a tax return for 2006

  • shared treasury reports-shared membership dues paid and unpaid

  • shared a report taken off of the State’s web site re:  Taxable sales comparing Carlisle to other surrounding cities.


4. Executive Director Report:            

Ethel Lee reported:

  • will be visiting the 20 or so members that have not paid their memberships yet next week.  Jim Segreto volunteered to help also.

  • 2 new members  -  Senator Staci Appel and Summerset Winery

  • Shared the 2007 Calendar of Events

  • Will be meeting with Cindy Nelson’s replacement from the Record Herald this afternoon

  • This is the 85th year for North Park.  The Garden Party, Fourth of July and Concert in the Park activities will be reflective of this event.

  • Will be attending the Scotch Ridge Center Steering meeting Friday afternoon.


5. New Business:

  • A Golf Outing planning meeting is to be held on March 30th.  Ethel will try to find someone to help Melinda Huisinga co-chair this event.

  • Shaklee Conference update-Ethel has met with Janis W., Denny Woodruff and Neil Ruddy concerning the Shaklee Conference.  The Conference is going to be held at the Holiday Inn in South Des Moines, but some of the attendees will have an option of going on a tour of Carlisle, since this is the birthplace of Dr. Shaklee.  The Chamber will need to provide persons to welcome guests, ride on the bus tour and mingle while attending the tree planting ceremony and evening dinner.  Janis will be attending the regular meeting next week to explain more about the event to the general Chamber membership.


6. Old Business:

  • Marketing - Mayor Ruth Randleman and City Clerk, Neil Ruddy had mentioned at the last meeting about the Chamber, Betterment and City combining efforts to do a Branding Study for Carlisle.  Discussion followed.  Dee  Smith offered to call Mayor Randleman and find out more information on this before the Chamber actually commits to anything. Tammy will get back to both of the other gentleman that had prepared marketing packages for us after the Chamber decides which way to go.

  • President, Vice-President & Secretary positions-Ethel will prepare a ballot to have at the regular meeting next week     for the Chamber members to vote on these three positions.
